Woodworks @ Daventry

This was the third annual event organised by the Tudor Rose Woodturning Club. It was well attended on both days and was supported by all the regional Turning clubs. The prize for best club display went to The Village Turners, based in Peterborough - Congratulations to them.

Charnwood were there with our range of lathes and turning accessories, but by far the most popular section was our range of wood blanks. We took both our range of native grown British timbers plus some of our more exotic imported species.

Oscillating Sander Upgraded

From May the 1st we will now be including 4 sizes of spindles - as standard - with our W420 oscillating bobbin sander.

The sander has always been supplied with 3 spindle sizes 19mm, 38mm and 50mm diameter. The new addition is a large 75mm diameter spindle ideal for sanding bandsaw cut edges.

10" Bandsaw Upgrade

The new upgraded version of our 10" Bandsaw is now in stock. The 2 new and improved areas are the Rip Fence and Mitre Fence.

The Rip Fence has a new easy to read scale with a magnifier set into the quick action clamping handle for fast accurate fence setting. The new fence guide rail has a wide contact area to ensure accurate parallel setting.

The new mitre fence is all metal construction, adjusts to 45 degrees each way and includes an adjustable fence to offer support to the workpiece during the cut. A T-shaped guide rail extends the capacity of the mitre fence off the edge of the table.

Velcro Backed Sanding Discs

Converting your sanding disc to use velcro backed sanding discs offers tremendous advantages and can save you both time and money.

The problem with the self adhesive type of discs is that they can only be fitted once, removing the disc to fit a different grit size and then refitting that disc later on, just does not work because the contact adhesive is spoilt.

When converting to the Velcro system you first need to fit the Velcro hook backing pad to the metal disc of the sander. We supply these as self adhesive, in squares that you trim down to suit whatever diameter disc you are using it with. Up to a maximum of 30mm (12").

We then supply packs of felt backed sanding discs in various grit sizes. You can remove the discs and refit them as many times a necessary, so having the correct grit size available for a particular job is never a problem. Working with the correct grit size will get more use out of each disc.

Our velcro hook and loop system has been specially designed to eliminate any flexing in the disc. Standard Velcro has much longer hooks which give a spongy feel to the disc when mounted on a sander and allow the work piece to dig in.

Top Tip: To remove the velcro disc in seconds without dismantling the machine.
Cut a piece of thin card into a semicirlce, the same diameter as your disc sander. A cereal packet works just fine. Peel back the top half of the disc and slip the card in between the hook pad and the sanding disc. Rotate the disc through 180 degrees. Peel back the other half of the disc and it will be released from the backing pad.
